2013 Event Trends & How to Use Them

We received an email from The Knot about this year’s most popular trends that brides are using on their wedding day. After reading through the list, we think a variety of events could use these trends to liven it up a little bit! Here are the trends that can give your event some direction:

1.       Great Gatsby

Bringing the 1920s back to life is the theme for this kind of event! Some ideas to enhance this theme are tapered candles, gold accents, slim and chic dresses,  bold rich colors and great food and drinks!

Large feather centerpieces and bold red glassware accents bring the roaring 20s to life at this event’s reception tables.

2.      English Romance- Bringing this theme into an event would work very well for a wedding. We would recommend using soft pastel colors, having an outdoor ceremony and simple but well thought out details such as choosing a romantic and soft typography.

3.      Mod Accents-

This particular theme is very self explanatory and easy to replicate! Bold color choices along with strong shapes can make you feel like you’re back in the 60s. Want some other great inspiration? The television series Mad Men! Pinterest has hundreds of ideas like this one here:

4.      Homestead Elegance  A absolutely huge trend right now is “rustic chic.” Brides combining the ranch look with modern and sleek additions to create a glam feel. If you’re look for inspiration for this kind of theme, you don’t have to look far because it’s everywhere! Starting with the venue to set the feeling, a common trend is to use a barn or a ranch as the backdrop. Bringing in gold accents, candles, chandeliers and wonderful food can bring together that chic feeling that pulls together this theme.

5.      EMERALD- This beautiful jewel tone is the Pantone color for 2013, so what better place to show it off than your event? Simple ways to incorporate the color without going overboard: use it for bridesmaids’ dresses, use the color in text on invitations or create flower arrangements with this stunning color and mix it with some more neutral tones such as white and ivory.

6.      Hashtag weddings - Most of use social media nowadays, why not give your guests a way to talk about your wedding! And there is no reason this doesn’t work for events as well. Using a hashtag for a specific event or even a seminar can create an open forum for discussion without the speaker bring interrupted.

7.      Couture Cocktails – One of the things that we suggest to our brides is creating their own signature drink using ingredients that are included in their bar option. It’s a personal touch right at the bar, and you don’t have to be a mixologist to create one! Below is a glob post from Etsy about creating your own custom cocktail.

8.      Farm to Fork – If it is something that is important to you, incorporating locally grown food into your menu and providing information for your guests on the menu card is a wonderful and personal touch.

9.      Reception Lounges – Creating a lounge atmosphere is a fun trend going around now. Instead of using the traditional round tables around the dance floor, set an array of furniture such as couches and cocktail tables.

10.   Guest Entertainment – We all want to make sure our guests are having a fun time at our event, more and more events are bringing in entertainers, photo booths with props or creating a fun personalized dance routine!

It’s All About the Feeling

DC Centre has gone through adjustments to our enhancement (decoration) packages to make sure that it fits your event and your budget extremely well, and now we want to talk about it. Decorations aren’t just decorations, and we know that. Your decorations for your wedding create a feeling, they can create a casual feeling, glamourous feeling, spring, summer, you name it! Our goal is to make sure that the feeling you want when guests walk into your reception room is loud and clear. How are we going to do that? Let’s talk about it!

Our wedding & event representatives have been around weddings at DC Centre for quite some time, but something we’ve never done is sat down with the bride at a separate appointment and asked what she envisions for her big day. We’ll we are now! DC Centre has started, what we like to call, “Vision Appointments.” Our brides go home with a little homework to complete, bring it back a couple weeks later and we sit down and go through and talk about how we can help create the perfect day for her.

Questions range from possible color combinations, so how elegant you want your reception to feel and what we can do to help you achieve that. Even if you aren’t having your event at DC Centre, make sure you can sit down with your hubby-to-be or mom or maid of honor and have this appointment yourself! Make sure that you are all on the same page so when adding vendors, decorations and ideas that you have a nice flow to your wedding and reception and your theme and feeling are consistent and well stated.

Are you a DC Centre bride? Have you had your “Vision Appointment” yet? Call or email your representative to just sit and talk about what you’re thinking! Not a DC Centre bride but liking the sound of all this? Give us a call (402) 393-7431 and we’ll set you up with one of our representatives and you can take a private tour of DC Centre and all we have to offer.

New Beginnings

DC Centre has a big announcement to make for the public to hear! After 32 years, the owner, Mr. Christianson will be handing over his dancing shoes to Ballroom Dance Manager Zach Mesenbrink and Carrie Vogt. Mr. Mesenbrink and Ms. Vogt have purchased the ballroom dance studio and created Dance City Omaha. DC Centre is excited at the opportunity to move on from the dance industry and focus more on the hundreds of events that we hold each year. We are glad that such wonderful people are taking care of the students and have so much faith in their drive and enthusiasm to continue the studio as it was originally founded.

Congratulations to everyone!

But that’s not all…

In addition to this major change for DC Centre, we have some large building renovations happening THIS WEEK! We are currently in the process of replacing all of the carpet in the entire facility to give it a more fresh, modern and clean look and we couldn’t be happier to do this for our clients. Here’s a sneak peak:

Extreme Measures

GETTY_H_041612_BrideWeightLoss

If you’ve been paying even the slightest bit of attention to wedding news, then I’m sure you’ve heard about the extreme measure brides are taking to be perfect on their wedding day and of course we’ve heard it all too but we’re curious as to what you think about it.

The NY Times almost a week ago posted a story about women using feeding tubes for up to 10 days to lose weight leading up to their wedding day, all to fit into their dress. In case you haven’t seen this story, check it out here. The tube goes in the nose and down into your stomach allowing only 800 calories per day and no carbohydrates for quick weight loss.

I’m not sure if you ever watched this TV “reality” show but it was called Bridalplasty. Brides compete for the wedding of their dreams and the body of their dreams. Winning challenges allowed them to receive one piece of plastic surgery on their wish list. Curious? Check out this clip:

What’s ironic is the winner of Bridalplasty decided to forgo most of the plastic surgery because she had lost about 35 pounds during the course of the show by dieting and working out! Extreme dieting, massive surgery…what would you do to have the perfect wedding? What happened to having the dress fit your body not your body fit the dress? And if you really do want to lose weight, why not start early and do it the right and healthy way?

We want to hear what you think! Have you heard of any other extreme measures brides take?
